Imagine a yard with a shaded lunch patio, brightly striped play areas, new fitness equipment,  new basketball courts, a real track, and a turf field. This is Westwood Charter’s new playground - and it is complete!

Due to the generosity of the families and businesses of our school community we were able to realize this vision in the 2005– 2006 school year.  As you know, Westwood Charter School is exceptional in all academic areas, technology, art, and social values and ethics.  However, the physical campus has not in the past reflected our abilities, commitment and progress in the educational field.

The project to completely remodel and improve our playground is complete. Funding allotted to our school through Proposition BB covered the basic resurfacing. Our successful 2004-2005 fundrasing efforts provided for the basketball and volleyball areas, a turf field, three new shaded seating areas, new lunch tables, a garden/outdoor classroom with drought-resistant native plants, colorful mosaics on the planters and benches in the northwest corner, new trees throughout the yard, new greenery around the bungalows, a butterfly and hummingbird garden, five new “fitness course” pieces, and colorful, creative striping of game areas throughout the yard.
